Angola and Cape Verde reviewed the strengthening of their bilateral relations on Wednesday in Luanda. According to a statement sent to JA, the discussions took place during a meeting between Angola’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, and the Cape Verdean Ambassador accredited to Angola, Júlio César de Morais.
On this occasion, both diplomats praised the historically strong ties between the two countries, noting that recent initiatives have injected greater momentum into commercial relations. The preparation of the Investment Forum, scheduled for October this year, is one such indicator of this shared commitment. Mobility and cultural interaction between the peoples, particularly between the two business communities, were also discussed.
Additionally, the lack of a direct Angola-Cape Verde air connection was reiterated as an issue to be addressed in order to strengthen cooperation links between the parties.
On the diplomatic front, the interlocutors emphasized the need for joint efforts to ensure the realization of the 9th Angola-Cape Verde Joint Commission.
The initiative aims to reinvigorate pending legal instruments, identify new areas of cooperation, and reinforce the foundations of interaction between the respective ministerial sectors to achieve mutually beneficial objectives.
For his part, the Cape Verdean diplomat took the opportunity to request support from the Angolan government in preparing the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence, to take place on July 5 — coincidentally the same year Angola celebrates the same milestone.
