US Funding For Clean Energy Estimated at 2.4 Billion Dollars

The United States of America (USA) has so far made 2.4 billion dollars available to Angola for clean energy generation projects. The information was announced on Wednesday morning in Benguela by the Minister of Energy and Water.
João Baptista Borges spoke to the press during a visit by Presidents Joe Biden and João Lourenço to the Carrinho Industrial Complex, in the municipality of Catumbela, in Benguela province.

According to João Baptista Borges, the US government is currently responsible for preparing for the entry of a further 500 megawatts of renewable energy sources into the Angolan energy matrix in the provinces of Luanda (Catete) and Malanje.

Alongside this, he said, another initiative to generate a further 320 megawatts in the four provinces is also being finalised, especially in areas where there is little or no supply.

Angola aims to achieve 73 per cent renewable sources in its energy generation matrix.

‘We must certainly have followed all of President Joe Biden’s pronouncements, in which he reaffirmed the US commitment to what are the goals for Angola’s energy transition. We set out to achieve 73 per cent contribution from renewable sources in our entire energy matrix by 2027 and the United States is now a partner in this transition process to the extent that it is currently financing projects in the field of energy generation,’ he said.
