Cabeólica Invests in Wind Turbines for Expansion Project and Carbon Emissions Reduction

Cabo Verde will receive new wind turbines on Saturday, August 30, which, once installed, will become the “tallest structures in the country”, standing 105 meters up to the hub (the central part where the blades are fixed) and around 180 meters to the tip of the blade, announced Cabeólica, a pioneering and innovative Cape Verdean company in the wind energy sector.

“The new large-scale wind turbines will be part of Cabeólica’s expansion project. The components include blades, towers, and nacelles,” the company explained in a statement quoted by Lusa.

The transportation of the components to the Santiago Wind Farm will begin on September 2 and is expected to take about two weeks.

The project supports the national energy transition goals for 2025-26, which include increasing the share of renewable energy in the electricity matrix to at least 30% and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The forecast for 2030 is to reach 50% renewable energy, placing Cabo Verde among the most proactive countries in the fight against climate change. The project will reduce more than 50,000 tons of carbon per year, totaling around 100,000 tons with Cabeólica’s overall operations. It will also contribute to the decarbonization of the economy and strengthen energy independence and security with turbines and battery storage systems (BESS), making electricity more competitive.

“With these turbines, we reinforce our capacity to generate clean energy and Cabo Verde’s commitment to a sustainable energy future,” the company added.
