Angola is creating the conditions to produce ferrosilicon, a product used in mining, which the country has been importing for years, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, said on Monday in Ndalatando.
The minister, who is in Kwanza-Norte for a two-day working visit, said that the country has the conditions for this mineral and the energy to exploit it and stop importing it.
According to Diamantino de Azevedo, the ministry has launched the challenge of producing ferro silicon to a company that is building manganese and ferro manganese processing plants in the municipality of Lucala.
Ferro silicon is an alloy composed of iron and silicon. It is widely used in various sectors as a deoxidiser, desulphuriser and alloying agent.
It is used in the steel and foundry industries and in the production of aluminium, copper and nickel-based alloys.
Ferro-silicon products are essential in the manufacturing industry. They play a significant role in the production of high-quality alloys and metals that are used in a variety of applications.
Ferro silicon products are known for their reliability, durability and strength, making them a popular choice for industrial applications.
Today, the first day of the visit, the minister and his entourage will work in the municipality of Lucala to check out the manganese mining project.
The group will also check out the province’s fuel storage capacity.
On Tuesday, the last day of the visit, the delegation will discuss the province’s geological potential with the local government and analyse the work of the companies that are prospecting and exploiting mineral resources.
The meeting aims to improve the work between the ministry, regulatory agencies and the government of Kwanza-Norte, in order to better promote the mineral resources sector in the province.
Local government data shows that the province has a great deal of untapped mineral potential. There are 38 registered mineral exploration companies in Kwanza Norte, of which 14 are operational.
Kwanza Norte needs means of transport and work equipment to better monitor illegal mining operations.
