Passenger traffic between islands in Cape Verde increased by 56% in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC). A total of around 240,000 passengers flew between the islands, with Praia, São Vicente, and Sal airports being the busiest, in that order.
The growth reflects a trend already observed in the first quarter and aligns with figures released by Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV), which reported having transported more passengers on domestic flights between January and August than in the entire year of 2024.
Last year, the concession granted to the operator Bestfly—a Angola-based airline mainly operating in Cape Verde—collapsed, prompting the state-owned TACV, which had previously only operated international routes, to step in and maintain domestic connections.
The latest AAC data also shows a 10.8% year-on-year increase in international passenger traffic up to July this year, with 664,000 arrivals and 829,000 departures.
In 2023, the government awarded the airport public service concession to Cabo Verde Airports, a Vinci Group company, which is modernizing and expanding the four international airports (Boavista, Praia, Sal, and São Vicente) and three aerodromes (Fogo, Maio, and São Nicolau) as part of a 40-year investment plan.
